In this card, we see the queen surrounded by all the natural abundance her world has to offer. The sky is sunny and nature surrounds her. She sits comfortable upon her cushioned throne, soaking in the current moment, enjoying it all. This card also comes up around pregnancies, be they literal or in the case of being “pregnant” with new ideas and creative energy that wants to be born. This card reminds us of the joy possible in the given moment with a conscious shift in perspective. There are numerous things to be thankful for and inspired by. Empress is the Goddess of fertility and creativity.
Position 1: Background | Present Concern
Feelings, intuition, expressing yourself, awareness, and learning to find joy in the things that matter the most are all themes of this card. The Empress also represents motherhood and maternal instincts and comes up around those who are very nurturing, deeply feeling, and protective.
When she comes up it is a time where you may be considering how meeting your own needs can be balanced with meeting the needs of others.
Position 2: Your Drive and Motivations
You are seeking fulfillment and a means of self-expression that has value. You may be feeling disconnected spiritually at present, or just like there is a little something missing that you can’t quite pinpoint. Blocks to creative energy or the need to find a constructive outlet to express your thoughts and emotions are what is driving you presently.
Position 3: What’s Blocking You – Fears and Subconscious
This card suggests you may feel you are in a holding pattern, a bit bored or uninspired perhaps. She comes up around fears of being unable to live up to your fullest potential, or not having all your heart desires.
Some of your deepest fears may be centered around anxiety of not being accepted by others, or not being needed. Sometimes, you feel an overwhelming desire to be needed, because it makes you feel more valuable. You may have difficulty fulfilling your own dreams or making sure your own needs are being met because you focus too much on others.
Position 4: Perspective and Further Awareness – What you Need to See Clearly
You need to find a balance between self and others and to focus more on abundance than lack. We all have to find a place where we need to honor ourselves while also helping others. When you measure your worth based solely on what you can contribute to others, you lose your own identity.
The best role models and positive examples are those who are self-fulfilled and can then nurture those same properties in others by setting a living example.
Position 5: Course of Action
Learn to trust yourself more. Get back in touch with your own spirit, and enjoy the simple things that make life joyful. If you are always striving for future happiness; you miss the joy of the present moment.
Life is lived more fully when we focus on the blessings that are rather than what we feel is lacking. Take time to creatively express yourself and to show gratitude and you will draw more of that same positive energy into your life.
