This card is the traditional patriarch in the Tarot. He represents rules, order, leadership, and discipline. With discernment and dedication; we are able to reach new levels of accomplishment and understanding. Within each of us is also the inner teacher or guru, and access to universal wisdom. This card reminds us that knowledge is power. Educate yourself continually, seek the lessons behind all experience and you will become a strong and noble leader, setting a positive example for others.

Position 1: Background | Present Concern

This card speaks of new opportunities and solid foundations born from discipline and making positive changes in your routine. The cultivation and development of discipline, talents or strengths. Leadership and order are required at this time.

Position 2: Your Drive and Motivations

You are looking for support and cooperation from others as you work towards higher goals. This could indicate positions of responsibility within the career or family unit, taking charge and bringing order, efficiency and mutual respect are what drive you.

Position 3: What’s Blocking You – Fears and Subconscious

You are bothered by a troubled relationship, feelings of guilt, and possibly even boredom. All of these things can be present when one is self-deprecating (negative) instead of self-disciplined (positive). In a fear position, this card can be controlling or on the opposite end of the spectrum completely apathetic. Either way, it is usually due to fears of being powerless within a certain set of circumstances.

Position 4: Perspective and Further Awareness – What you Need to See Clearly

Success and self-fulfillment require discipline and order. Discipline is positive reinforcement and staying focused on goals and victories. Punishment is berating and harsh and serves to reduce motivation and incentive. Be sure you know and understand the difference. A clear plan and tracking progress are the surest ways to make the most of Emperor energy.

Position 5: Course of Action

Continue to apply yourself to achieving your goals and know that if you can dream it; you can do it, so long as you stay focused and committed to taking positive actions toward your goals. This means a need for discipline and dedicated action.
